Crispy Canada Winter Day

…..not like my home town Möhlin in Switzerland. They are as of tomorrow in full swing of “Fasnacht” Carnival
But to top it of even more a friend of mine has seen “Schlüsselblümli ” in the forest out already….really I am crying now!

were a month ahead of us here in the Canadian North of Toronto, but not two full Months!!!
What was my day like youmay ask …smiles fun filled with snow! Really softly falling down this morning, shoveling during the day, sunshine to finish the perfect day at minus 15 temp…cooooollllll

Rheinfelden, Switzerland
Rheinfelden is a town next to my hometown Möhlin only about a 10 minute drive away from us. Love visiting it every time I come home. For many reasons…Has my favourite yarn store “Strickeria Gomitolo” there. Rheinfelden has a really nice “Altstadt” all in cobblestone and only foot traffic. Sooo very pretty you have to walk the side paths on your next visit too! See one of my older posts. Rheinfelden is surrounded by a huge stone wall from the old times 
From the Swiss Rheinfelden you can cross the bridge by foot to the German Rheinfelden too. And on the way there have a walk on our famous “Inseli”
You can see the “Schwarzwald” (Blackforest ) from there too. It is home to Feldschlösschen, the most popular beer in Switzerland. Oh and did I tell you about the little Goats they have just outside the city walls…sooo cute. I am in love with the animals…
Rheinfelden ist eine Altstadt neben meiner Heimatdorf Möhlin nur ca. 5-10 Minuten mit dem Auto von uns entfernt. Wenn ich auf Besuch gehe in die Schweiz gehe ich immer dort in das Städtlein für viele Gründe…es besitzt mein lieblings Geschäft “Strickeria Gomitolo“. 
Die “Altstadt” ist belegt mit……. Ohhh bitte helft mir aus hier ist es auch “Kobblestein” genannt? auch nur für den Fußgängerverkehr . Sooo super toll! Doch Du musst auch die vielen Seitenwege hoch laufen ! Ja auch das das Felschösschen Bier kennen wir ja alle
Von dem Schweizer Rheinfelden kannst Du auch zu Fuss über die Brücke zu den Deutschen
Rheinfelden. Und auf dem Weg dorthin schnell auf einen Spaziergang an unserem berühmten “Inseli” von dort kannst Du den Schwarzwald im Hintergrund sehen. Oh ja hatte bald fergessen …die Geissli sind sooo sweet…

“OH CANADA”
was hoping to find a jellyroll with all Swiss prints on the fabric…but my time back home in Switzerland did not allow it. So decided to just make this the quilt it is now.

Dieser Quilt “OH CANADA” gefält mir recht gut. War auf der Suche nach einem Jellyroll Stoff bedruckt mit Schweizer Motiven …aber meine Zeit dazu war zu kurtz. So beschloss ich nun diesen Quilt fertig zu nähn. Meine Kanadischer Quilt. In der Hoffnung, dass ich eines Tages doch noch so etliche Schweizer Motiven Stoff finden werde.

Grocery Shopping In Switzerland
It felt like we had the store to our selfes….So big and almost no one was in the isles. Love the bread section and the fruit tray was kind of fun too. One basket with three different fruits. The cheese ahhh so yummy wish I could have brought some back. But no dairy products are allowed to bring to Canada. Sadly.
The meat and cold cuts wow so many choices. Then I totally forgot the CHOCOLATE section….ahhhhh here I did bring some back.
Es fühlte sich an, als hätten wir den Laden für uns allein….so groß und es hatte gar nicht viele Einkäufer. Liebe die Brot Abteilung und die Früchten waren eigendlich recht toll abgepackt. Einen Korb mit drei verschiedenen Früchten. Der Käse ahhh so lecker, ich wünschte, ich könnte etwas zurück bringen. Aber keine Frishen
Milchprodukte sind erlaubt mitzubringen nach Kanada. Leider.
Die Fleischabteilung und Wurstwaren Wow so viele Auswahlmöglichkeiten. Dann habe ich total vergessen die Schokoladen nah ja ….ahhhh hier bringe ich einige zurück.

Moehlin, Switzerland
Arrived in Möhlin, Switzerland on April 15th. for a visit to see my Mother and Brother.
Always fun to see all the Family and Friends after many months or years at times. For the first view days it was raining and kind of damp and cold, but with the spring colours out already it had to get nice I hoped. And by mid-week it was gorgeous weather too.
I am surprised how this town has changed so much over the last 30 years. Kind of happy to see still some old homes standing, see pictures below.
Ist ja immer schön meine Mutter und Bruder sowie Familie und Freunde zu sehen.
Wärent den ersten paar Tagen hat es geregnet und war auch etwas kühler. Doch mit dem Frühling hier hoffte ich doch auf ein paar schöne sonnige Tage. Die Sonne zeigte sich dann auch mitte Woche…es ich kaum zu glauben wie Möhlin sich geändert hat in den letzten 30 Jahren!

Traveling To Switzerland
Sure I know it has already gone by, my trip back home to Möhlin in Switzerland and now I am already back home in Canada. Thought I still like to show you some of the time I had been able to spend back in my hometown.

Pinwheel Cardigan – Gift
Fun easy to knit and use up any yarn and make it YOURS! So really just have fun with this cardigan and use any yarn you have …start the knitting I tell you for sure you will love it too. In mine I used up some JoJoland yarn and some really stretchy yarn, sooorrry have no idea what it is anymore for the second peachy one.
When You read this I am already in Switzerland and I need some gifts for Leonnie and Elena..smiles yes you girls :-). So in need of new once…. here you are hope you love them as much as the last once.
Spaß einfach so los zu stricken und die Verwendung von Garn für diese Jacke sin einfach unergänzlich! Also wirklich nur Spaß habe ich mit dieser Strickjacke…auch Du wirst daran freude finden! Für die einte Jacke hatte ich Wolle von JoJoland benutzt ja Resten davon aber wie schoen die geworden ist. Leider haben keine Ahnung was für Wolle ich hatte für die Zweite.
Wenn ihr dies liest bin ich bereits in der Schweiz auf Besuch und ich brauchte einige Geschenke für Leonnie und Elena..lächelt ja ihr Mädels :-) anscheinend gefiel diese Jacke euch zweien so gute. Doch auch ihr seit am wachsen und groesser werden, so braucht man neue Sachen …. Hoffe Ihr zwei habt freude daran.

My Mom is Celebrating her 80th. Birthday!
“Yes fit as a little kitten”
I said on the invitation for her Party and believe me she is going, going and goin.
She loves to go on her walks, plays cards with her friends. Public pool is opening up soon so…swimming ;-) is a good for sure. You should see this pool! Wish we had something like that locally.
Getting groceries by walking to local store and, ohhhh I bumped into a friend and we had coffee. Sooo cool when have you gone groceries shopping lately and bumped into a friend and just had a coffee?
Ohh yes the garden is starting soon to grow…what can we plant FLOWERS for sure, You should see it. Miss that garden. Oh ,not to forget the cockatiels that my dad so enjoyed caring breeding them in our backyard.
So Happy 80 Birthday “Mutt” You are truly a special Mom.

Gern geht sie Spatzieren oder in ein Lehren-Theatern. Spielt Karten mit Ihren Freundinnen. Das Schwimmbad ist bald offen da sollte ich anrufen ;-) ! Ich wünschte, wir hätten so ein Öffentliches Freibad bei uns in der Nähe
Lebensmittel einkaufen kann sie zu Fuss gehen> ohhhh hatte noch eine Freundin getroffen und wir hatten noch einen Kaffee gehabt. Sooo cool! Wenn hattst Du das letztemal Lebensmittel eingekaufst und hattes jemand angetroffen und noch schnell einen Kaffee getruncken hier? Unhörbar hier bei uns …..über den Grossen See
Ohh ja der Garten ….was können wir an BLUMEN planzen? Oh nicht zu vergessen die Nymphensittiche, die mein Vater so genossen hatte, Pflege und Zucht in unserem Hinterhof hatt sie nun auch übernommen.

Hockley Valley Nature Reserve Hike
It has been way to long since I had gone on a long hike like this one. I think it dates back to my school years when we hiked over a mountain, I think it was the Gemmi Pass (2,322 m [7,618 ft) to Leukerbad in Switzerland.
So Last weekend was just perfect for a hike at Hockley Valley Nature Reserve.
We spent a wonderful 6 hours together just my husband and I. No worries just us and the beauty of the forest coming alive again. New growth of leaves, flower and animals. The water in the creeks so pristine clear just like it would be coming from a glacier still very cold.
Yes I have to admit my body is a bit soar after the hike as I really had not gone an any hikes in a long time and 14km, well I have to say I was happy I could still truck along like this and this in less then 6 hours.
Viel zu lange here seit ich eine lange Wanderung wie diese wanderte. Wenn ich so nachdenke, geht es bis auf meine Schulzeit zurück. Ich glaube, es war der Gemmipass 2.322 m nach Leukerbad in der Schweiz.
Am vergangenen Wochenende war das Wetter einfach perfekt für eine Wanderung. Mein Mann und ich verbrachten eine wunderschöne Zeit zusammen ohne Sorgen, nur uns und die Schönheit des Waldes. Neues Wachstum von Blättern, Blüten und Tieren. Das Wasser in den Bächen so makellos klar als käme es aus einem Gletscher und immer noch sehr kalt.
Ja, ich muss zugeben, dass mein Muskeln ein bisschen darunter leiden…oh ja nach der 14km Wanderung, doch war ich froh das ich dass doch noch laufen kann und unter 6 Stunden.

Yes Locarno is truly a spectacular place to visit. Both my husband and I had enjoyed some wonderful moments on our honeymoon. This time I was there with our son, it has changed like any other place does.
Wie die Zeit doch fergeht. Im Juni waren wir in Locarno, Switzerland und jetzt ist es schon wieder Herbst. Die Blätter färben sich schon goldig und rot…
Ja Locarno ist ein Ferien Ort zum Geniessen. Wir waren das letzte mall in Locarno als wir Geheiratet hatten. Auf unsere Hochzeits Reise.
Doch sieses mall war ich mit unserem Sohn, meiner Mutter und ihre Freundin in Locarno.

Lugano, Switzerland
Wow what a happening Place.
Sunny, warm and yes Music playing. At first I thought it was always that way.
Music by the Lake. Then I clued in a big screen right by the Lake Ahhh I get it “FIFA Soccer Night”.
This city is a must see …..
I love the tropical feel one get when entering to the south of Switzerland.
Palm trees are a welcome sight. If you like watches and jewellery you better put your walled away. The Glitz, Glam and sparkles are amazing and so are the prices.
You have to see the butcher shops…wow! I even seen a show maker …He was very happy to have me take a picture too. My eyes opened up wide when I seen the spaghetti noodles at one meters long.
Walking by the waterfront, just perfect with all the hustle and bustle of the young and old walking or sitting by the waterfront.
I love all the small allies that lead from out Hotel to the Lake. So special to be able to show this to my son.

Wow, was für ein “Happening Platz”.
Sonnig, warm und ja Musik. Zuerst dachte ich, es ist immer so. Musik beim See? Dann sahen wir die großen Leinwand direkt am See Ahhh natürlich “FIFA Soccer Night” ist ja am laufen.
Diese Stadt muss man besuchen wenn man in der Schweiz ist.
Ich liebe die tropische Atmosphäre in der Süde-Schweiz. Palmen sind ein willkommener Anblick.
Wenn Du nach einer Uhr oder Schmuck suchst, das musst Du den Geldpeutel hervor nehme! Glitz, Glam funkelt fast jeder Laden und so auch die Preise.
Ja die Metzgereien, so viel Fleish das immer auch in den Fenstern hängt. Sogar ein Schuhmacher freute sich das ich ihn Fotographierte. Meine Augen öffnete breit, ein Meter lange Spaghetti Nudelns.
Am See spazieren zu gehen,einfach perfekt mit dem juble und trubel von Jung und Alt. Ich liebe all die kleinen “Gässlein”, die von unserem Hotel zum See führen. Und all das durfte ich meinem Sohn zeigen. Ihm hat es hier glauv=be ich am Besten Gefalle. So blieben wir noch etwas länger.

Valtellina Valley In Italy
Our Switzerland trip continues from Tirano,Italy to Lugano,Switzerland though the Valtellina Valley by bus.
A wine region of Italy, Valtellina has been a wine-producing area for more than 2000 years .The vineyards are all on the hillsides of this Valley.
Truly a fantastic bus trip. Especially when you see how narrow, curvy and winding the roads are once you get closer to Lugano. Yes those bus driver know how to get you from Tirano to Lugano nice and safe. You have to see the video I too.

But have a look…we had a quick stop at “Comune Di Sorico” have a look at where they where selling local cheese and dried meat. I am sad I did not bring any back to my brother. Sorry…Sooo cool I thought. I would have bought some but we still had a two days to travel and no way to keep it. Love the Bell tower in this village

Usere Schweizer Reise geht weiter von Tirano, Italien nach Lugano, Schweiz.
Durch das Valtellina-Tal mit dem Bus. Eine Weinregion von Italien, Valtellina ist schon für mehr als 2000 Jahren ein Wein Gebiet. Die Weinbergen sind alle auf den Hängen des Tals.
Wirklich eine fantastische Busfahrt. Vor allem, wenn man sieht, wie eng, kurvig und wendend die Straßen sind, wenn Du näher nach Lugano kommst. Ja, die Busfahrer wissen, wie Sie von Tirano nach Lugano ihre Gäste sicher ans Ziel bringen.

Aber schaut… wir hatten einen kurzen Aufenthalt in “Comune Di Sorico” hier kann man von einen kleinem Camper einheimischer Käse und getrocknete Würste kaufen. Ich bin traurig, ich hatte es verpasst meinem Bruder so etwas nach Hause zu bringen. Sorry…das nächste Mal dann.

Tirano, Italy
Finally made it to Italy to a quaint old Town called Tirano.
Switzerland trip part 4
The terminal station at the south end of the Bernina Railway. When you arrive in Tirano from Switzerland with the Bernina Express you drive right past the historic “The Madonna di Tirano” dating back to the 1504.
A town in Valtellina, in the province of Sondrio, Northern Italy. It has about 9,044 inhabitants and is adjacent to the Switzerland – Italy boundary.
Departed the Bernina Express later in the afternoon we immediately started looking for a Hotel.
I had forgotten that in Europe lots of Restaurants close their kitchen till 6 or 7 pm so no supper till then… So we decided to go sight-seeing.
Schon lange wollte ich nach Italien.
Wir sind in einer malerischen alt Stadt namens
Tirano.
Die Endstation am südlichen Ende der Berninabahn. Wenn Du von der Schweiz mit dem Bernina-Express ankommst,
fährt die Bahn gerade bei der historischen “The Madonna di Tirano” aus dem 1504 vorbei. Gleich als wier von der Bernina ExpressBahn ausstiegen, fragten wie nach Hotels für eine Nacht. Glücklich waren wir das Hotel Corona mit guten Preise, saubere Zimmer und freundliches Personal gefunden zu haben das auch in der Nähe von dern Bahn ist.
Ich hatte vergessen, dass in Europa viele Restaurants die Küche, bis 18:00 oder 19:00 Uhr schliessen.So kein Abedessen bis dann …
Also beschlossen wir etwas herum zu laufen und die Gegend an zu sehen. Alte Gebäude, kleine Straßen, sehr alte Türen, ein Stein Badewanne draussen wo das Wasser aus dem Berg durchfliesst.
Wirklich eine sehr historische Stadt. Aber eine, die eine sehr befahrene Hauptstraße hat die aus dem Süden Italiens, die Waren in die Schweiz bringt.
Oh habe das doch fast fergessen. Gelato die Glasse von Italien ..und ich habe das ganz verpassed zum schlecken…ja nun muss ich noch einmal nach Italien gehen. Ja der” Chianti” auch eine Spezialität von Italien. Oh und die fahren mit ihrne Autos sogar auf dem Fussgängern Wegen. Lustig das zu sehen…

Switzerland “Bernina Express” Part 3
The Bernina Express is one of the most spectacular Alpine crossing
Off we go to the South of Switzerland by train. We left Möhlin, a village in the North of Switzerland next to the Rhein River, very early in the am as you can see low-lying fog. We took the train to Chur.
Here we stepped on to the Bernina Express train. Through 55 tunnels and across 196 bridges and from Chur-Tirano travel time 4.05 hours, the train weaving its way behind the Bernina Hospiz (2253 metres) through the Poschiavo Valley into Valtellina in Italy.
Many highlight awaited us. Near Filisur, the train traverses an awe-inspiring landmark – the 65-metre-high Landwasser viaduct.

A trip one has to go and take if you visit Switzerland. I was wishing for blue sky so we could see the mountains…overcast for most of the day though.
luckily for us just as we arrived at “Alp Grüm” for about 10 minutes it cleared up, long enough for us to look around and take some pictures of the
….How lucky I have to say!
We continued our adventure over the Brusio spiral viaduct, really this is fantastic.
…Endstation! All had to get off in Tirano, Italy. Yes we are in Italy now.
Gorgeous older town I will post some more about this later in Part 4…soon I promise.
Der Bernina-Express ist einer der spektakulärsten Alpenüberquerung
Es geht los in den Süden der Schweiz mit dem Zug. Wir verließen Möhlin, das Dorf liegt direkt neben dem Rhein im Norden der Schweiz,. Sehr früh am Morgen ging es schon los, bei tief liegende Nebel nahm wir den Zug nach Chur.
Hier gings weiter mit den Bernina-Express. Durch 55 Tunnel und über 196 Brücken, der Zug ging seinen Weg hinter dem Bernina-Hospiz (2253 m) durch das Poschiavo-Tal in Valtellina in Italien. Wunderschöne Asblicke erwarteten uns. In der Nähe von Filisur, durchquert der Zug eine beeindruckendes Wahrzeichen – das 65 Meter hohen Landwasserviadukt. Vorbei an dem eindrucksvollen Morteratsch-Gletscher.
Eine Reise wert wenn Du die Schweiz besuchst. Ich wünschte für blauen Himmel damit wir die Berge sehen könnten…Doch war es bedeckt für ein teil des Tages. Glück für uns, für etwa 10 Minuten bei “Alp Grüm” wiechen dir Wolken ab. Lange genug für uns, um Fotos von der Piz Palü-Gletscher zu nehmen. Wir setzten unsere Abenteuer weiter über den Kreisviadukt Brusio, wirklich das ist fantastisch.
Endstation …! Alle mussten in Tirano, Italien aussteigen. Ja, wir sind jetzt in Italien. Wunderschöne Dorf oder Stadt werde etwas mehr darüber zeigen später im Teil 4 von unserer drei Tages Reise.
