My “Turquoise Charm Bag” has been an inspiration from the turquoise waters from Antigua… So blue and clear.
Then on one of our visits to the festivals here in our town, I fell in love with this type of bags. Made all with cotton ropes and fabric strips sewn together….
I had seen this before in one of the magazines I get from Europe and said I really want to make one of them. So off with no pattern …
Well I tell you it does take a lot of rope and fabric. Your fingers will love you after rolling the ropes in the fabric too. But wait the fun is still to come …..Now you get to sew the covered ropes to each into a coil, just like a snail-shell looks …well kind of. But you get what I am telling you…a lot of fun …oh yes it gets better now you have to curve this bag too so it has a wall…oh yes curve it! That takes some practice I tell you. You can see mine is not perfect but almost ….I love it. Pick a fabric you really love and then just go for it…I have mine from “The Quilt Store” and we have lots more of it to chose from…The cotton clothes line rope I bought at Wallmart….kind of bought all they had at the time…5/8″ thick. Oh use a topstitch needle 100/16 and Cotton Petites by Sulky Thread for the top and regular for the bobbin.
So once it was all sewn together and I had used up almost 300 yards of rope for this size. It was a really squishy thing to put in my sewing machine throught opening I tell you… well worth the results….smiles
What do I use for the handles? Was looking for old horse rains….all my friends that have horses….I thought for sure would have one old one hanging around…..
Today I notices my purse, I had been using for just a view weeks ….oh no is falling apart…. yes!! Now I have handles I can use….why through away the purse when I can take it apart and use items from it…yes rip, rip, rip….
Right Ave and Judy you have seen me doing this crazy thing ….Have a look what my new bag looks like now…
For the back I used this black soft and heavy Sued Minky fabric we have at the moment at The Quilt Store Sooo soft and cuddly great for any winter!
I free motion quilted this Queen Size 90″x 91″on the HQ Fusion at the store too … It is amazing what all the longarm machines can do when you program the patterns into them and have IT do the quilting. However, I myself like to work it in free motion so it is truly all done by my hands….well just not “hand sewn” I know ….smiles enjoy ahh and as for the binding. That is my absolute favourite last thing on the Quilt …Really like sewing binding on…just like my grandmother was sewing the napkins for soooo many, many decades.
And if you really like this queen size quilt and like to buy it from me….just send me a note!
So changed my pattern up a bit. Removed the top strip with the cars off and worked several borders around it as I liked it. Then cut out many cars and added them by sewing them on top of the quilt. Now ready to be quilted ….
I think this one is not bad for doing it all on my own with no pattern…
Ahhh…so today was fun at work….Wendy showed me how to sew this “Tablecloth”
And all the ladies in the “Sew Social Club” where right behind it too. You ladies are so much fun!
Well the original pattern really is for a baby blanket. So here I go…. once shown twice sewn….and many more to come.
Smile Wendy I have to stop!
In no time, I really have to say a very simple and easy to sew up project. I think it takes way longer to choose the fabric for it. But leave it to us Girls at the store “The Quilt and Yarn Store” we can help you with that dilemma too. Especially if you have thousands of meters right under our nose like I do every day at work.
Two days off work, well it is so bitter cold at -29 who wants to go out?! See what came off it. A dozen knitting bags and more….Well it does help to work in a Fabric and Yarn store I have to say. Have a look at “The Quilt Store and The Yarn Store” we have so much fabric and yes yarns too. Sometimes it is hard being around all this amazing stuff.
My Co-worker Deb showed me how to sew up this knitting bag. For sure I had to sew one up asap. Well new fabric came in ..guess what some came home with me too. I used Canvas fabric for all my main print part and reg cotton prints for the rest, lining and topper, handles and inner lining. I love them all and wow can’t decide the one I am going to keep for Myself. My mom like some too well that gives me some options I guess.
Zwei Tage frei von der Arbeit na ja bei dieser Eiskält von minus 29 Grad da bleibe ich daheim. Schau was ich genäht habe.
