Deep Plum Colour

File 2017-09-19, 10 49 49 AMPerfect for this fall Season is this deep Purple plum colour.

I could think of many projects to knit up…if my time would allow it.

Special Order for Carla A. Canonico of
“A Needle Pulling Thread” and KNITmuch.
Carla told me she loves her purples and is looking forward to seeing the once I have dyed for her.

“It has to be the right purple”

File 2017-09-19, 10 51 17 AM

I believe it is the one just like the Italian dark Plums. The one we can find in most grocery stores in the past view weeks.
So here are a view skeins dyed and drying up in the last week of summer. Truly love how beautiful they look in the sunshine

Berner Oberland Pullover

ANPT-Winter-2016-berner-oberland-cabled-pullover_Página_3_Imagen_0001-1Oh nooo….I just noticed, as I was adding the Berner Oberland Pullover

I looks like I totally neglected to show you one of my latest pattern published in A Needle Pulling Thread in the Winter 2016/2017 issue that was published in April 2017 .

Available in three different sizes and knit in worsted weight yarn. I love working with cables and try to add one in all my designs.

If you like you can purchase the pattern though the link above

Origami Shrug

File 2017-05-22, 6 10 33 PMBlowing in the summer wind it is for sure…

This Origami Shrug by Melissa Wehrle is so soft and light. It has been on my mind for way to long to knit this shrug up. Since I have the book now for  several years I thought it really is time to start knit it up too…

Can you tell I am Soooo loving it .File 2017-05-22, 6 07 27 PM

I used 5 skeins of my absolute favourite yarn called Louet MerLin Sport Weight a total of 1142 meters where knit up with needle  US 6 -4.0mm in the Aqua colour. So sad though this yarn is now discontinued ;-(((

If I would knit this Origami Shrug again I would be to use my KnitswissYarns in sport weight. Really think it would be stunning too.

2017-05-22 13.56.22

Totally in love with this Origami Shrug.

When it came to sewing the back together I put the stitches on two separate needles and used the Kitchener this way…no one will see a seam!

(Now if you are going to knit this one up, look at the pattern errata there is a correction that is important to know! )

Celebration Tulip Cowl

File 2017-01-12, 10 48 04 AMWe celebrate 150 Year Canada this year …

 Celebration Tulip Cowl

has been designed to honour  this event. Although I have seen the Maple Leaf Tulip in pictures only at the time of me disining this cowl. I too was inspired to reflect it in my knitting and design….with planting in the fall of 2016, 50 of the Maple Leaf Tulip bulbs. File 2017-05-31, 3 09 48 PM

So after I had a look though my already existing yarn stash I found several smaller balls of fingering weight of my own KnitswissYarns. My colours are perfect for this tulip colours and concept.  I am excited to tell you the  pattern was published in “A Needle Pulling Thread” Summer edition 2017

If  You  like you can purchase the pattern through “A Needle Pulling Thread” by clicking on the link above.

Cabled Leftover Neck Roll

2017-05-26 14.21.11Ohh what can I knit with all this leftover yarn?

A topic we all know to well…we work on one project and then either we do not have enough yarn or too much. But what can we use that for to nice to just throw away…I think.

I am laughing at times. I have so many gorgeous yarns in my stash that are waiting for YES…

“That Perfect Project”

Believe me, I will find one just give me time.

However I tend to go to my leftover yarns and use them up most of the time.

I just can’t see it sitting around to long …As my mother would say when we chat on Skype. Oh Jacqueline   “How many scarfs or shawls do you need?”  LOL never enough winters are cold here in Canada… same as in Switzerland just much longer.  You can belive me add-on one month on each ende of the winter then you have Canada weather easily….

Anyway let’s forget about the weather, back to knitting  I really love to just be creative and work something up as I go.

“A Needle Pulling Thread” Spring 2017

the request was ” What to do with leftover yarns?”   Ah ha I though…!

A Neck roll form I had around the home and so it became my

“Cabled Leftover Neck Roll”

Pattern can buy purchased here or find the magazine at your newsstand. Yarn well guess what, just use some of your leftover stash and make it YOURS… play with as many colours or yarn type as you like and just have fun…

Smiles I am proud to have been in  “A Needle Pulling Thread” magazine for more than one year now. Thanks Carla and John for believing in my talent.

Happy Knitting …..

Kiki Mittens

2017-02-14-13-03-34Not just once I knit them ..yes two pairs I knit up…well this one was a funny one. I hade this really nice colour in stock of my own “KnitswissYarns” fingering weight in light and dark gray and a red for accents. Pattern is available to purchase on Raverly too

So as I am knitting them my daughters hamster had babies again. Believe me they are sooo adorable and sooo tiny and grow within 3-4 weeks to the point where we need to find a home for them.

So here is where I am going with this story. I was past 2/3 of one mitten when I decided to go and see the babies..not relizing I must have moved the magnetic strip marker on the pattern up by yessss…. two rows.

back to my knitting…started where I thought I had left and knit to top of fingers where I cast off. Ok looks goo I though..but what is that…the pattern is not like the fist part…what did I d here?

So no way I am going to open this up just knit the second one with the same error…no not error I call it the “Kiki Mittens” because  that is what the hamster mom is called.

So ok, knit the second mitten the same way. Only to realize “I” know knit to mittens for my right hand….AHHHHHH how could I be so …..? Could not believe this..

Ok now I had to knit two left once with the same “Kiki” thought…lol

So love them and what a story I thought….Smile Maria I know you told me you love that second pair as much as I love mine too….

Yehh ALL Quilted

2017-01-27-08-54-28As promised here is the picture of my fished

“Log Cabin Quilt”

All done in light, medium and dark Orange Cotton Fabric and light, medium and dark gray Cotton fabric.

See previous post on this Log Cabin Quilt here!

Love, Love, Love these colours!!!

For the back I used this black soft and heavy Sued Minky  fabric we have at the moment at The Quilt Store  Sooo soft and cuddly great for any winter!

I free motion quilted this Queen Size 90″x 91″on the HQ Fusion at the store too … It is amazing what all the longarm machines can do when you program the patterns into them and have IT do the quilting. However, I myself like to work it in free motion so it is truly all done by my hands….well just not “hand sewn” I know ….smiles enjoy  ahh and as for the binding. That is my absolute favourite last thing on the Quilt …Really like sewing binding on…just like my grandmother was sewing the napkins for soooo many, many decades.2016-12-30-17-33-29

And if you really like this queen size quilt and like to buy it from me….just send me a note!

Totoro Mittens

2016-12-21-14-32-09Totoro Mittens for my daughter.

Totoro is a character from  “My Neighbour Totoro”

Oh ok I have knit them for her for Christmas 2016 and I am totally forgot to show them to You…like so many other items I have knit since them…So I  have to catch up very fast. Seems like I have been busy posting about hikes or food lately.

Well the Totoro Mittens  by brella on Ravelry are a hit with my daughter. She loves them and apparently wears them all the time. Yeh I would too in this cold Canadian weather.

For the mittens I used two skeins of my “KnitswissYarns” in a DK weight  100% Superwash Merino wool so great far washing too. One in each colour gray and purple  and needle size 4mm. Yarn is soon available for online order too.

Squirrel – Winter Fun

img_9085A week ago we had the second snowfall of this winter-season. Perfect time to get my camera outside to see what we can capture.

Smile I thought it will just be snow, berries, branches, bushes and lanterns covered in snow. Well look again….

A Squirrel was busy munching on some berries. So cool how it hangs in the tree.

Me, still trying to figure out my camera and all the bells and whistles it has. Decided to set it at “Manual” setting this time and learn how to get the correct setting for what I want to see. Yes I know some could be better but good for now.img_9087-2

Doch schau her ….ein Eichhörnchen!

Log Cabin Quilt

file-2016-11-07-6-44-49-pmFinally I decided to piece this Log Cabin quilt together. I have had this fabric for over two years in my stash….sounds familiar to You?  The pattern is called “Fields of Furrows” All together 36 blocks in 10 hours …huwww. Done.

Then sewing it all into one big Queen size piece by piece. Smiles, it would not go without a hickup….I had it all placed correct and still was able to sew one strip wrong so the howl section looked off. Undo my stitching and back together the right way…in no time.

Now just have to get the batting backing and I have lots of fabric left so may even do something fun for the backing with all that extra fabric instead of buying more fabric. then the Quilting…..chat soon again. Have a great week

Das Muster heißt “Fields of Furrows”. Ganze 36 Blöcke in 10 Stunden … huwww. Erledigt.

Rattlesnake Point

img_7784

I was taken back by all big crevasses in this Forest.

Rattlesnake Point by Milton, Ontario.

part of the trail was also on  The Bruce Trail..

Amazing my hubby walked all of the Bruce Trail in the past two years and this in all kinds of weather…Congratulatons to him and his buddies. What a accomplishment!

img_7639

As whe had lunch we had a visit by this Garter Snake

What a perfect place for a Sunday hike with my hubby.I was able to take my camera along and WOW I have to say my hubby truly has to slow his walking pace down with me.  Just like to see things from a different view. Close up mostly I have to admit. See my next post coming soon…

It reminded me a bit of some places back home. I think I remember somewhere in the “D’Hölli” ? Some of you back home perhaps you can help me out on this one. But I remember someplace like this in one of the Forest by Möhlin, Switzerland.

Sewn Zentangle Portrait

file-2016-09-13-4-29-41-pm

ZENTANGLE SELF PORTRAIT

A Portrait of mine all done on my sewing machine. Wow this took 12 hours to finish and look at this. Cool I think.

file-2016-09-13-4-30-12-pm

Our class teacher Ana Paula Brasil is really fantastic and with so much spunk.  However I was not so sure about drawing my face or anyones face for that matter.  Really don’t like drawing faces. Rather landscapes, mountains or sit by a pond peaceful quiet places you know…. Faces and people are not quiet. I know that is just what I think…file-2016-09-14-9-25-11-am

This next part though is AMAZING! You get to draw with your sewing machine and create a picture all by filling in the blank spots…..Really love this part of the project, I could do this all over again.  Now what to do with this is the big question. Perhaps I use it as a panel for a quilt.

file-2016-09-13-4-31-01-pm
Ana Paula Brasil  holding the drawing, where I have the drawing on fabric that I am working on. A good five hours to this point. With Ana explaining the idea on how we should look at drawing this kind of cartoon portrait.

my favourite part of this project, drawing with the sewing machine!

Colourful Scarfs

File 2016-04-07, 3 50 55 PMSo yes I am learning to use my Bernina Serger 800DL. Thought I’ll try to use it with this knit fabric and try using the Flatlock Stitch. Kind of getting the hang of it but really if I look at this video mine looks to lose …. doing something not right I think. Of to try it again… not giving up. I know I can do this.

But either way I like how the scarfs turned out anyways. Fun for the spring with lots of colours. I just have a hard time deciding on the one I will keep for myself…smiles. File 2016-04-07, 3 51 55 PM

Hardanger Christmas Star

2015-12-03 16.15.26
I like to be unique so red with glitter gold thread was perfect fit for me.

As we all are putting out our christmas decoration up, I came across a special handmade decoration I had made several years ago. This red Christmas Star.

Smiles I was told just last week I should be putting this all out on the tables and not have them in storage.

I was the lucky women to have a mom and grandmother that shown me lots of stuff like knitting, crocheting, tatting, Hardanger stitching and much more.

I have to say this hardanger stitching is really amazing and you better make sure you count each single thread as you go along in the setup of the outside border. Because it will hurt much more to open up all the blocks if you are off by YES ONLY ONE THREAD!

2015-12-03 16.09.00
My Moms creation

Hardanger embroidery is a form of embroidery traditionally worked with white thread on white even-weave cloth, using counted thread and drawn thread work techniques. Hardanger fabric is an evenweave cotton material woven with pairs of threads of 22 count. The weave gives a squared appearance to the fabric  with distinct holes, making it easy to count and work on. DMC Pearl Cotton 5 is ideal for Hardanger Fabric. Use DMC Pearl cotton 8, for more delicate filling stitches and other surface details.

Have a look at some of the table runners most of them my mom did. I stepped out of the box and had to make the red once and one of the beige once for sure. They for sure take a while to finish!
